Meanwood started the match with a mini crisis. Firstly both their goalkeepers, Aydan Fertug and Paul Mally were out injured. Fortunately, Woody had returned home from America and volunteered to go in net just like he does for Abbey Grange. Dean Bell had devastatingly injured his neck, thus the numbers were scarce. Fortunately, Anthony Mckieth was once again available after illness so Meanwood had enough players. The team lined up with Woody in net accompanied by James Milner, Gafa, Anthony Mcketih and Richard Bissitt who were all playing out.
Ok…erm with two minutes had gone and Meanwood had devastatingly conceded two sloppy goals, which meant that they had a mammoth task to get back into the match. However, Meanwood started to play the ball around a bit and enjoyed what was to be their best 10-minute spell of the match. Unfortunately, Meanwood struggled to find a way through a strong Omar Superstars defence and couldn't find the finishing touch they needed to give themselves a fighting chance. Bissitt and James Milner both went close with good efforts. Fortunately, Meanwood did get some sort of reward for their 10-minute spell when Gafa rounded off a stunning Meanwood passing move with a low shot to the bottom left hand corner of the net. This meant that Gafa was now joint top scorer with Richard Bissitt…how lucky. Meanwood were starting to find some rhythm after Gafa's goal but this was cruelly destroyed when Omar's added a third just before half time. This was heart breaking for Meanwood and they never really recovered.
Ok, second half…remember when Meanwood were facing The Big Kahuna's? Well one of the problems that we didn't tell you about was the fact that when Meanwood attacked they were extremely vulnerable to a counter attack without Woody in defence…well Meanwood had three up for most of the second half…and guess what happened…the floodgates opened again…let's not talk about the rest.
Conclusion
OK, so Meanwood lost and probably gave their worst performance of the season. Well these things happen. At the end of the day according to Goals Meanwood are the youngest team in all of the Mens leagues. Every match is a learning curve for Meanwood; if Meanwood were still in the youth league they would win every game. However, they are in the Mens league and they must now learn some new lessons before they can live up to their potential. As many of the referees have stated, "Meanwood have the best individual players compared to most other teams but they lack the experience at this present stage". Experience is a vital part of football as it prevents you from conceding and gives you ideas on how to score…experience is lacked but after a few seasons it can easily be gained. Next up for Meanwood is an interesting clash against Roque Jnrs. Will Meanwood get revenge for their last defeat against them and get back on track? Who knows? Who cares? Meanwood now have nothing to lose and are more dangerous than ever…more epic clashes between youth and experience await them.
