Meanwood Lose After Ayden Hurts His Wrist
Ayden FertugAfter a piss up the night before, the majority of Meanwood's players had a hangover and looked worse for wear. Gafa was also low on morale as he had received abusive phone calls from his fellow team mates while they were in a drunken state. Dean Bell was devastated that he couldn't play for Meanwood due to personal circumstances beyond his control. Dean wished the team good luck. Unsurprisingly Woody was unavailable for yet another game, leaving Meanwood with little experience in defence and a lack of substitutes. However, the majority of Meanwood's regular players were still available. Ayden Fertug stayed in net and playing out were Anthony Mckieth, Gafa, Richard Bissitt and Chris Waring was recalled after impressing during his last appearance. The dedicated players lined up at 9pm to face Roque Jnrs and start the season off. Would Meanwood be able to win their opening Mens League match for the first time in their history and get off to a good start?

Well no, Meanwood conceded a sloppy goal early on and were up against it…. great start, eh? However, Meanwood did battle back and earned themselves a penalty after Mckieth had cunningly nudged a Roque player into the area. Bissitt stepped up and just about placed the ball past a despairing keeper. Meanwood then managed to add another when Mckieth broke free and slipped the ball past a keeper. Meanwood then pressed on for more Goals but Roque's keeper had closed the gates and was not letting any shot go past him. Gafa had an effort but was adjudged to have been slightly in the area, however the keeper saved it anyway. Then Neil sent a thunderbolt that was deflected into his own net by Anthony Mckieth to bring the game level. Bissitt- Meanwood's penalty takerThe game was evenly contested with both keepers pulling off superb saves…Then just before half time Roque's defender had a vicious shot that almost sent Ayden flying…Ayden did manage to save it but it had damaged his wrist again and Meanwood were in serious trouble. Chris Waring asked his brother Paul to go in net and the match continued. However, without Ayden in net Meanwood collapsed, lost confidence and were no longer the team they once were.

The goals then kept leaking in for Meanwood as they were eventually soundly beaten. Roque's keeper was on top form and later got man of the match. He denied Meanwood every time they had a shot, which made the margin of victory even more flattering for Roque. Neil kept scoring and causing problems…and the final score was a miserable 13-2.

Meanwood were left disappointed and one player Ayden Fertug was in pain to add insult to injury or injury to insult. Meanwood start the season at the foot of the table and still haven't won an opening season match in the Mens League…the curse lives on. If Ayden hadn't have got injured, it could have been all so different….next up a match against Inter Mi Nan who will be looking for revenge after their last defeat to Meanwood…great.
