As another season passes and another is set to start, we thought we'd predict our league. Last season we predicted that the top two will be Omar Superstars and Roque Jnrs and we were right. We also controversially predicted that Meanwood would finish third and we were right. We also predicted that fourth and fifth would be contested between Paul Redfern and Kelly's Heroes and once again…we were right. We also predicted that FC/DC would finish bottom and the team that took over them did finish bottom so we were right. In fact didn't get a single team wrong by more than one position each way. Could we be right this team round? Here are our predictions for next season…
Grampa's 8 my Hampster
Grampa's 8 my Hampster are becoming veterans of this division and will see this season as an opportunity to make more progress. They are slowly improving and have added strength to their squad. However, they still lack consistency and struggled to get a solid run together that would have seen them finish much higher. Up until the last few weeks, Grampa's 8 my Hampster were challenging for third place but they stumbled towards the end and rocketed down to sixth. They are fairly average all over the pitch and have few weak areas, yet at the same time they lack the quality of some of the other teams. Meanwood have won their last three encounters against Grampa's 8 my Hampster (17-5, 8-7 and 9-2) and will be looking to continue these run of results against them. They could be this seasons dark horses.
Chances of winning the league: 15/1
Jordan Harper
A new team to this league that only joined a few weeks ago. However, they have previous Goals experience and won their only two fixtures. Judging by their pre-match warm-up, they seem to be fairly solid all over the pitch but seem to lack a full time goalkeeper, which could prove costly. They are an unknown quantity and that could make them a dangerous team to play against, as teams aren't aware of their weak areas. Based on their two performances alone, one of which saw them beat Paul Redfearn, they should finish within the top four.
Chances of winning the league: 6/1
Kelly's Heroes
Named after a war movie. These are considered as Meanwood's "bogey" team despite the fact that Meanwood have never lost against them. They are veterans of the league with most of their players over thirty. They have strength in depth and can make multiple substitutions. Carlos is widely considered as one of the best players in this league and he is their biggest threat and bags them plenty of goals. They are formerly of division four but failed to promote straight back up last season. They will be looking to return there.
Chances of winning the league: 3/1
Lawnswood Arms
Joined division four for the last game of the season. They managed to get a good draw against Rob Timms' LAU Unathletic but the late position they took over was irretrievable. Little is known about them but they are apparently a strong side. Time will tell.
Chances of winning the league: 20/1
Paul Redfearn
Formerly of division four where they got relegated by a single point. Unfortunately, Paul Redfearn failed to get promoted back to division four and ended up being piped to third place by Meanwood. They are a fairly skilful side but they find it difficult to play against physical players such as Richard Bissitt. Meanwood lost their first game against Paul Redfearn but gained revenge towards the end of the season. After a season of consolidation, Paul Redfearn will be looking for promotion.
Chances of winning the league: 5/2
Park Lane
Park Lane got relegated last season by a single point due to some misfortunate results. They are former runners up of this division and will be looking to bounce back. There orange polo kit obviously works dividends as they can see each other and link up well. The last time they faced Meanwood, they won 5-2. However, they will be facing a more experience Meanwood team this time round and might be in for a shock. If Park Lane get a consistent run going, they could challenge for promotion.
Chances of winning the league: 2/3
Real Oriental
Real Oriental struggled in their first season and failed to gain a single point. However, they almost managed cause a few upsets and even managed to only lose by the odd two goals. Meanwood scored over thirty goals against them last season and will be looking to do the same again. Real Oriental could find this season difficult as they look for their first win.
Chances of winning the league: 250/1
Meanwood
Meanwood only lost one of their last eight games last season and won four of their last five, which should give them confidence for next season. They are fairly solid at the back with Woody, Bissitt and Mckieth forming a strong defensive partnership. Meanwhile, Gafa will score the odd goal up front. Meanwood's most crucial player could be Ayden Fertug who will be seeking to continue his good form of last season and stay injury free. Meanwood's season was disrupted by Ayden's injured wrist and they struggled to keep the goals conceded down to a minimum without him. Last season, Meanwood only lost one game with Ayden in net. Meanwood have made their intentions of winning this league fairly clear.
Chances of winning the league: 2/3
Other Predictions Omar Superstars will end their wretched end of season form and will comfortably finish mid table. Roque Jnrs will add some excitement to division four and will challenge for top three. Meanwhile, The Big Kahuna's will also challenge for the title.
